Kyrgyz Music from Tradition to Today
A rare afternoon of Kyrgyz traditional & contemporary music.
Join us for an intimate concert exploring the living sound traditions of Kyrgyzstan — music shaped by nomadic history, epic storytelling, and diasporic life. The program features kuu (instrumental pieces evoking landscape, animals, and emotion), vocal works, revived repertoire, and new creations that bridge heritage and the present moment.
Performances by three Kyrgyz musicians:
✨ Aidai Kalmamatova — a leading figure in the revival of the nearly lost jetigen tradition
✨ Aidin Turganbekov @aidin.turganbek — performer of komuz, kyl kiyak, jaw harp, and other traditional instruments
✨ Kasym Moldogazy @kasymmoldogaziev — a guitarist whose music bridges Kyrgyz melodic thinking and contemporary idioms
Through solo, duo, and trio performances, the afternoon traces continuity and transformation within Kyrgyz music — presenting tradition not as a fixed past, but as an ongoing creative process.
