ABOUT

Kasym moldogazy

Kasym Moldogazy is a guitarist from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, now based in New York City. With a sound shaped by jazz, blues, rock, and funk, his playing draws on the influence of artists like Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and John Scofield. Kasym began playing guitar at 13, initially inspired by classic rock, and gradually found his way into jazz. In a country where jazz education was limited, he took a self-directed path early on — seeking out recordings, interviews, and mentorship wherever he could. His journey eventually brought him to the U.S., where he earned a master’s degree in jazz and went on to tour and perform professionally across a wide range of styles, including funk, rock, and soul. He has also played extensively in Black churches throughout the South and New York City, further deepening his musical perspective and versatility.
